There may be situations where you are the person who is being checked upon. If it is a job that you just have to get, it may cause some worry that you are being subjected to a backgroundcheck. But you can alleviate your worries by ensuring you follow a few things.
Planning ahead – If you have a criminal record that may cost you the job, you will have to get the record expunged. When a court expunges it, it will not show up on your record when someone does a backgroundcheck.
Always tell the truth- Even if you have had a minor issue on the record, it is better to be upfront about it and explain why it has happened. This way, the employer has a better chance of trusting you, rather than you being found to be a liar.
Answer all questions – You do not have to give any information that has not been asked. If you have been convicted of a crime 7 years ago and they ask you if you have ever been convicted of a crime in the last six years, just say “no” and you don’t have to reveal when you have been convicted.
Understand your rights – Check out all the law books that provide you with the information about what the rights of employers are, where they can turn you down for employment based on something negative being found out about you.
Planning ahead before going for an interview helps and understanding your rights and your employer’s rights helps get through a backgroundcheck easily.
